Graph & branches

Graph overview

Read the conversation graph and understand its visual structure.

The graph is a visual map of a conversation. Read it from earlier nodes toward later nodes: connecting lines show which point each continuation came from, and sibling nodes reveal alternatives created from the same parent.

Read the structure#

Each message node includes a concise generated title or label so you can scan the idea without opening the full transcript. The selected node has a stronger visual state. Unread completed responses can carry an unread marker when you moved elsewhere while they were generated.

Pastel branch accents distinguish major branch families. The first line of work uses the main green accent; additional branch roots receive other colors. A color follows that branch through its descendants unless you apply an override from the node menu.

Understand direction#

Convography lays nodes out by depth. A node farther from the root represents a later point along a path. Multiple children at the same depth are alternatives, not a sequence that the model reads together.

Ordinary conversation paths are tree-shaped: a normal node has one conversational parent, so its chat ancestor path is unambiguous. A synthesis result is the exception in the graph. It can have incoming edges from several explicitly selected source nodes while its own chat pane remains an assistant-only starting point. Files can appear as related file nodes and connect to the message nodes that used them; those relationships do not change a normal conversational parent chain.

Select a node#

Click a message node to select it. The docked chat pane opens the complete ancestor path and scrolls to the source prompt associated with that graph point. Selecting another node updates the pane immediately.

On mobile, double-tap a node to open its path from the graph view. A single tap selects it for graph actions.

Open the node menu#

Right-click a message node, or use the equivalent touch gesture, to open actions for that exact point:

  • set or reset the branch color;
  • share the branch ending at the node;
  • split the path into a new conversation;
  • delete the node and everything below it after confirmation.

File nodes#

File nodes use a shape and color that reflect the content type, such as image, PDF, text, document, spreadsheet, audio, or video. Select a supported file node to preview it. If the browser cannot preview the format, use Download.
