Get started

Start your first conversation

Create a conversation, send the first prompt, and follow the new path.

Your first conversation establishes the root of a new graph. You do not need to design the graph in advance—start with the question or outcome you care about, then branch when an alternative becomes useful.

Create the conversation#

  1. Select New conversation in the conversation pane. Convography immediately switches to the new empty conversation; you do not need to select it again from the list.
  2. If the chat pane is not open, choose Write the first message on the canvas.
  3. Enter a clear first prompt in the composer.
  4. In Auto mode, simply select Send. In Simple mode, optionally choose a provider or model, reasoning level, and supported tool first.
  5. Watch the response stream into the chat pane and the new node appear in the graph.

An empty graph becoming the first conversation node after a prompt is sent

Write a useful opening prompt#

Give the model the goal, important constraints, and desired form of the answer. For example:

Help me plan a launch brief for a privacy-focused note-taking app.
Identify the audience, the core promise, and three positioning risks.
Use a short table followed by recommendations.

You can attach files before sending when source material matters. In Simple mode, use web search only when the answer needs current public information.

Continue the active path#

After the answer finishes, the response node becomes the active point when the selection has not changed during generation. Type a follow-up and select Send to extend it. The graph adds the next connected node and the pane follows it.

If you click elsewhere while a response is streaming, Convography does not force the selection back when the response completes. The finished node remains available in the graph and may be marked as unread.

Try a first branch#

Select the first answer again and send a different follow-up, such as “Now challenge those assumptions.” The existing continuation remains intact and the graph creates a second child path. That is the core branch workflow.

For precise alternatives, read Create a branch. To grow a path without leaving your current view, read Send behind.
