Sources & citations
Read file citations, web sources, and source metadata attached to an answer.
Convography can display two kinds of answer evidence: citations to uploaded file chunks and links returned by hosted web search. They have different provenance and should be reviewed differently.
File sources#
Answers grounded in processed files can include a Sources section. Each citation identifies:
- a source number used within the answer context;
- the original file name;
- a chunk position and shortened chunk ID;
- a retrieved text snippet;
- a relevance score when available.
Use the file name and snippet to confirm that retrieval selected the intended material. A high relevance score describes matching behavior, not factual authority.

Web sources#
When Web Search is used, Web Sources lists linked page titles and domains. Open each relevant result in a new tab and check publication date, authorship, and direct support for the claim.
Web citations are tied to the answer that used search. They are not a permanent guarantee that the page will remain available or unchanged.
Included Files#
The files button beneath a message shows Included Files for that request. This is the clearest record of which selected files were actually carried into the turn. It is distinct from generated attachments displayed with an answer.
If the app asks which file you mean, choose from the clarification options. This happens when a prompt refers ambiguously to “the file” while several candidates are active.
Cite responsibly#
- Open the cited source.
- Verify the exact claim in context.
- Prefer primary material for important decisions.
- Check dates for time-sensitive information.
- Treat uncited model statements as unverified synthesis.
A citation shows where supporting context came from; it does not certify that the model interpreted it correctly.
Missing citations#
If you expected file citations, confirm that the file is clean, ready for AI processing, selected in the composer, and supported for the chosen route. If you expected web sources, confirm that Web was enabled or that Auto selected it for an explicitly current task.
